Sarti

Distance from Thessaloniki 142 km.

sartiRefugees, who migrated here after the Greek Catastrophe in Asia Minor , at the location of the ancient town Sarti or Sarta, founded the village. For this ancient town little is known. We only know that it was one of the towns of Halkidiki who were forced to contribute to the Persian army with ship and warriors in 480 BC. Much later, in the 14 th century BC, a village with the name Sartis was built on the same location. This belonged to the Monastery Xiropotamou. Here came the refugees in 1923 and gave the new village the name of the old town.

The village is very busy during the summer months. In the middle of August, when the village's church celebrates, it is overwhelmed with visitors.
